Played a bit until I got to level 2, sadly being absolutely destroyed by the level 2 enemy there. Not too sure about the battle mechanics but I feel like there need to be a little bit more advantage towards the play. (such as attack knock back, more attack range etc).
The graphic looks really nice though, the movement and pacing also seems on point that make me feel like playing something like a face-hack and slash.
The pixel art is awesome and very ambitious, it gets kinda noisy sometimes especially in the cave areas but still great mood and style.
Having the almost forced death to teach you how to jump was really funny in my opinion.
The creepy reversed audio and whispers and the ambient tones really set a dark mood.
The movement felt okay, I especially liked the wall jumping, it felt almost exactly like Super Metroid!
I really didn't vibe with the combat though. As soon as I got outside the level 2 dude kicked my *** and I abused going back to the save point to heal to kill him, once I leveled up and killed the other dude I thought I would be okay but then dying takes away levels which sucks.
After the first bridge section I just skipped and ignored every enemy because they were super high level and It just didn't' feel worth it to level up only to lose them when you die.
I managed to get to the 2nd indoor cave area, the giant shadow beast chasing you in the darkness is awesome and I especially loved the section where you have to wall jump to get away from it.
Unfortunately there's an unskippable level 24 dude after that climb and I had no way of fighting him so I had to give up then.
Overall a really solid and fun foundation for a game, I'd love to play it more once the combat is fleshed out a bit or I'm not punished so much for dying.
The art and sound design are super cool (especially the death animations)! I unfortunately was unable to make it past the wall-jumping section (the game would freeze). The controls and combat are fun! I was impressed by how natural the enemy AI felt; thats hard to squeeze into a two week game jam. Awesome work!

Thank you! May I ask what browser you used to see if we can replicate the issue with the freezing?

Very cool setting and fun design ^^
